TP 01: Use AI-systems (machine learning, deep learning and neural network approaches) to accelerate the digitisation in the agri-food sector
Project Title: Identification of Beneficial Waste from Food Waste for Use in Organic Fertilizer through Image Processing and Deep Learning Support, and Development of Innovative Recycling Systems
Project Aim: There is an observed trend towards denser urban living in international living spaces. Within this density, the rapid increase in food consumption by individuals leads to a corresponding increase in waste piles generated by food waste.
NOTE: We are extending an invitation to interested organizations to join us either as coordinators or partners in this endeavor.
SUMMARY
This project will constitute the initial phase of obtaining food waste that can be used in organic fertilizers from increasing waste piles with the assistance of drones and 4K cameras. High-yield food waste, both biologically and agriculturally, will be identified and analyzed with original programs developed through image processing and deep learning methods using the obtained images. If highly accurate data is obtained from the analyses, its integration into a system will be ensured. The system to be integrated can be designed as Innovative Recycling Systems.
Thus, with the planned Project, beneficial waste that would otherwise be lost in city waste piles and contribute to the increase in these piles will be sustainably recycled through a digital innovative system in countries. This will contribute to the sustainability of the organic fertilizer production industry, which contributes to organic production in food production, and enable producers to access these fertilizers instead of synthetic fertilizers. Reductions in organic fertilizer costs can also be achieved.
Increased employment opportunities for young people in technology-enabled food production can be facilitated.
